Want Free Publicity for Your Business?

The economic downturn is affecting everyone. During times like these, people are making cuts wherever possible. I must say…marketing is NOT an area where you should cut as you might in others. However, one approach that you can take to promoting your business is by utilizing the power of a press release.
Now a press release (or news release as they are sometimes called) is not guaranteed like paid advertising. However, with the advent of vehicles like PRWeb, it is so much easier to get your story into the marketplace. Unlike in recent times when you had to go through PR professionals, it’s very doable now to handle this service yourself (provided you have the time).
Here are six keys to getting your press release published:
- Your press release must be newsworthy
- Be short and to the point
- DO NOT give the whole story in the press release, give them a reason to call you
- Offer them suggested questions to ask when calling you for more information
- Provide real problem solving information
- Always have a follow up story to the first one in mind
There are two options when it comes to a press release. Online and offline. Online PR is great because it gives you the opportunity to rank high in the news search engines like Yahoo News and Google News. There are more people going to the news search engines today than those who read newspapers or go to CNN. Another reason to use online PR is the opportunity to develop relevant links back to your website from within the release. You will get a better ranking of your website in the general search engines by using taxt links within your press releases as long as the links are related to the keywords that your site is optimized under.
Keep this in mind as well, according to George McKenzie, former media professional of more than 30 years, “…a lot of people are just like me. They’re finding themselves having to do more with less. And because of that, anybody who knows how to play the game and make life a little bit easier for guys like me can do themselves a lot of good”.
Offline PR should not be forgotten. It’s still a good idea to reach for the best of both worlds. The print media is still a resource that can provide profitable exposure for your company. The key is to be strategic in going after publicity. A good online or offline press release will require a small investment if you outsource it. The benefit comes from the resulting attention you gain from the media. When the news media follows-up by contacting you, the resulting coverage they give you (free of charge) is publicity.
